Tom Strong, Book 2

Tom Strong, Book 2 - Alan Moore, Todd Klein, Chris Sprouse

Moore overwhelmed me with 'Tom Strong, Book 1', throwing so much at me that it was hard to see what he was creating. Steam butler? Cable cars? Femme Nazis? Crazy, I know, but Tom Strong really clicks in issues 8-14.

I failed to mention in my last review how stunning the art is for 'Tom Strong'. Chris Sprouse is a genius, he captures so much in each panel, and there is always something more going on the page than the words alone could convey....well, of course it does, but Sprouse's work does it better.

The possibilities of parallel worlds, alien invasions, travel through TIME and SPACE are gleefully and weirdly expanded upon, with equal reliance on action, horror and humor that makes for a lot of fun. I love the more serious comics - looking at you 'Concrete', but its great to leave any and all semblance to realism behind, without sacrificing character and story.
