Drama

I see now why Raina Telgemeier has such a devoted fanbase. 'Drama' was a great deal of fun and brought back a lot of fond memories of my own drama club experiences.
Callie is in 7th grade and passionate about set design for her middle school's productions. Being of the age when you're drowning in a sea of hormones she spends a lot of her energy on thinking about certain cute guys in school and the chances she takes with those crushes don't always pan out the way she'd hope. I didn't think it undermined her character. It was something she cared about, but she always recovers her priorities. If I were to have to read through all of the romantic plots and subplots instead of 75% of the story being the visual cues I would likely have a different opinion, because juvenile love stories and unrequited crushes are tedious.
There wasn't much of a surprise to the ending, but I wasn't expecting it. This is a sweet story about a girl in love with theater and her similarly obsessed friends. The fact that they're some queer teen/preteens is just icing on the cake. 100% fun.
