Mrs. Wilkins is frustrated and beginning to despair, Mrs. Arbuthnot is disappointed and sad, Mrs. Fisher lives in the past, and Lady Caroline has not lived for much at all except the moment. They need everything that a vacation can give.
'Enchanted April' is a vision of happiness and how it can transform a person. I loved it. Unlike Elizabeth von Arnim I don't have the gift of making something comfortable and easy and lovely interesting to the casual reader, so I won't go on, but this book is as-advertised. It makes you believe, and be OK believing in it in an un-ironic kind of way, in flowers, and sunsets, and long walks as an occupation.
