It took me awhile to get to these, but they are quite good aren't they? I'd chalked these up as merely a tie-in.
'The Tales of Beedle the Bard' are five stories written in the vein of the classic fairy stories collected/written by Aesop, the Brothers Grimm, and Hans Christian Anderson. All of the stories have a solid lesson ingrained into them - be kind, believe in yourself, accept the inevitable - that work whether or not you're a witch or wizard. Rowling adds layers with Dumbledore's commentary on the text and with her own helpful notes for muggle readers.
A good start to a new year.
