Ultimate Wolverine Vs. Hulk

Ultimate Wolverine Vs. Hulk - Damon Lindelof, Leinil Francis Yu

Hmmm, well the list I have of the Ultimate reading order was way off in putting this so early. Forge's presence was the big tip-off for that.

From watching 'Lost' I already knew that Lindelof has no talent for character. I mean, come on, how many people watched that show for the characterization and their interpersonal involvements? We watched that show for the mysteries and the setting. I've come to terms with just how mediocre that show ended, but the mystery was great while it lasted.

Here in 'Wolverine vs. Hulk', Lindelof has the opportunity to prop up two of Marvel's most popular, but tired, properties. I give him some credit for not using the word 'bub', but for everything else I was more than a little bored. He didn't do anything different to the characters other than throwing Banner a philosophical ball. How he went from meditating to keeping a harem was never mentioned. For Hulk not to have torn those girls in half he'd have to be, proportionally, tiny. Think about it. I had to.

The in-story tie-ins about Star Trek just seemed like unnecessary cross promotion too. He probably had to physically restrain himself form referring to She-hulk as an Orion slave girl. Still, it was entertaining enough. The way the fights were broken up and by avoiding linear storytelling he kept me interested, barely.
